Prep Term One
During Term 1, the students develop their cognitive and inquiry skills on how we communicate our feelings and how we express our likes and dislikes while building their confidence in familiarising with Chinese pinyin system, strokes, radicals, early Chinese characters, numbers and simple statement and questions such as: “I am…., I want……, I think….., I like……; I can see…..? What is it? Who am I? and Who are we?
Cultural aspects include Chinese New Year, Chinese modern technology, facts about China, Chinese native animals. During the course, students will concentrate on organisation and self-management skills throughout their approaches to learning.

Prep Term Two
During Term 2, the prep students have developed the skills in pinyin and they apply the skills to learn the story book “Three Little Pigs (sān zhī xiǎo zhū) They also develop the skills to confidently and independently follow instructions to use iPad and online Chinese software learning programs for listening and speaking skills. Practising the writings of Chinese characters, and comparing the similarities and differences between strokes, radicals and characters is essential in Chinese language study. Students develop their skills to improve the tones and accent in pronunciation. They will also learn the poems and songs about Dragon Boat Festival (duān wǔ jié), and Color Songs (yán sè gē)
Cultural aspects include Chinese Dragon Boat Festival, Chinese modern technology, facts about China, Chinese native animals. During the course, students will concentrate on organisation and self-management skills throughout their approaches to learning.
Prep Term Three
During Term 3, the prep students will create own story book based on the book leant “Three Little Pigs (sān zhī xiǎo zhū) and relate the story by using gestures and working in groups to perform parts of the story. They also develop the skills to confidently and independently follow instructions to use iPad and online Chinese software learning programs for listening and speaking skills, and comparing the similarities and differences between strokes, radicals and characters is essential in Chinese language study. The students will further develop their skills to improve the tones and accent in pronunciation. Topics include: objects, shapes, and telling time.
Cultural aspects include Mid-Autumn Festival and its myths and legends. During the course, they students will concentrate on communitive, creative, organisation and self-management skills throughout their approaches to learning.
Prep Term Four
During Term 4, The Prep students will learn a story book “The Journey of the Animals “Panda and Crocodile” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cj9nle3-Zdw and relate the story by using gestures and working in pairs to do role- play on the story. They also develop the skills to confidently and independently follow instructions to use iPad, apps and online Chinese software learning programs for listening and speaking skills. The students will further develop their skills to improve the tones and accent in pronunciation. They will also learn to sing the Christmas carol: “Jingle Bells (líng ér xiǎng ding dāng) in Chinese language.
Cultural aspects include Chinese children’s books and videos about journey such as “ Journey to the West Cartoon”西游记 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKbgNS5-h2I&t=208s, “Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf ”喜羊羊与灰太狼 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmGm4hZUqOs , “The Twelve Zodiacs’ Race” 十二生肖的故事 “Maya the Bee Story” in Chinese 蜜蜂玛雅历险记 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPJQNy-bWd0 .
